Areas of Expertise

I specialise in complex upper gastrointestinal surgery including oesophago-gastric, hepatobiliary, pancreatic and bariatric surgery. I have broad special interests and expertise in cancerous and non-cancerous conditions that affect the oesophagus, stomach, liver, gallbladder and pancreas. Equally, I maintain a special interest in Fibrolamellar HCC and work closely with the world leading experts at Rush University Medical Centre in Chicago as well as the FibroFighters Foundation to help manage this rare liver cancer for the children and young adults that it affects in Australia.

I am passionate about and have specialised in the treatment of complex abdominal wall hernias, including those requiring reconstruction of the abdominal wall as well as all other forms of hernias. I have a special interest in the minimally invasive correction of rectus diastasis (separation of muscles) post pregnancy. Whenever possible, I try to offer all treatments as laparoscopic/robotic (keyhole) or endoscopic procedures to facilitate an enhanced recovery after surgery.

Having undergone advanced specialist training at St George Hospital including The St George Bariatric Centre of Excellence, currently one of Australia’s few centres of excellence for bariatric surgery, I also offer comprehensive treatments for obesity. I maintain strong research and teaching activities, allowing me to always incorporate newest data and evidence-based treatments into your care.

I am the co-owner and also work at Scarless - The Clinic with Dr Andrea Issler-Fisher a nationally and internationally recognised Scar Expert. At Scarless - The Clinic we provide holistic and comprehensive scar management combining traditional therapies including conservative approaches, lasers and other energy-based treatments, surgery, and novel techniques of biomodulation. Patients suffering from any type of scar will be assessed and an individual holistic treatment plan established.

Robotic surgery is increasingly used in hepatobiliary and upper gastrointestinal procedures. While not suitable for all operations, it allows for minimally invasive surgery with smaller incisions, resulting in less pain, quicker recovery, and earlier returns home and to work.
